Dr Lynnette Kelly was elected to Coventry City Council in 2004 and is the Cabinet Member (Education). Lynnette was born in Coventry and is married with four children. She went to Spon Gate and Whoberley Hall primary schools, and then to Barr’s Hill secondary school. After leaving school she lived first in London, then moved to Holland, and later to Brunei in South East Asia. Living as an immigrant in a Muslim country sparked a lasting interest in issues relating to immigration, integration and equality. On returning to Coventry in 1990, Lynnette studied A Levels with Henley College, which enabled her to take a degree with Coventry University. After working for a time for Coventry City Council, Lynnette then went to Warwick University to study for a PhD, and received her Doctorate in 2002. This led to work on various research projects, including work on Community Cohesion, employment of refugees and ethnic minorities, methodologies of researching refugee populations, and most recently health rights and homeless families. As well as working as a research fellow, Lynnette does some teaching within the university.
