Andrew Williams was born in Lancashire in 1975. After spending his childhood in Lancashire, Devon, Glasgow and Milton Keynes, he came to Coventry to study Computer Science in 1994. After graduating Andrew decided to remain in Coventry and make his home here.
Andrew got involved in politics at university, and was Vice Chairman of Coventry University Conservatives and twice elected as a non-sabbatical officer in Coventry University Students Union. After leaving university Andrew became chairman of the City of Coventry Conservative Future branch and was elected to the council for the first time in May 2000 - becoming the youngest councillor in Coventry for over 20 years.
He has served in a number of roles including Chairman of Scrutiny Board 1, Deputy Chairman of the Scrutiny Co-ordination Committee and Cabinet Member (Neighbourhoods and Community Safety).
He is currently Conservative Group Chief Whip and Shadow Cabinet Member (Culture, Leisure, Sport and Libraries)
Andrew is involved with the Anglican Church in Coventry, having been a member of the House of Laity of the Coventry North Deanery Synod. He is also a server at both Coventry Cathedral, and St Mary Magdalen's parish church. Andrew got married in July 2005 to Jane Westerman, who has recently completed a Theology degree at Durham University.
Andrew is a computer programmer by profession and has worked in both the public sector and the private sector including companies such as Marconi and Perkins Engines. He now works for his own company AW CompuTech Ltd. |
